Whenever a significant prize-giving event nears, one notices a clamor for introducing of new categories to honor overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of enthusiasts dedicated to specific genres.
A fellow writer has already made supporting a scary games classification. That would rule. So would tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to single-minded supporters, there's a strong justification for why my demand stands as crucial and important of all. This is the request: We need an award type for logic-based games.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Categorizing art by genre isn't exact; it remains highly personal, and inevitably spark debates and end in fuzzy definitions. This explains why cinema institutions avoid this approach. However, it represents an essential concession within the realm of gaming, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
The major gaming awards offer these award types recognizing Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these classifications actually cover many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
Not so for brain-teasing titles. No appropriate category exists for their placement. Consider three of outstanding current releases, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching in a different title, and the sweetly sociological logic puzzles in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.
Acknowledgment Issues
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, except when they manage to fit classification types such as Handheld titles, VR/AR Game, or the extremely competitive Indie races.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition in any category in 2014
- A different innovative game was excluded during that ceremony
- A beloved organization game was overlooked that year
- Limited numbers of logic titles managed to sneak into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Commonly they're modest productions, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games stand as most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for over a decade.
The legendary block-stacking game competes with popular creative games for the title of most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and engaging with diverse game types.
Proposal and Rationale
Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave so many good games out.
Restating the point, these are games that otherwise have no home during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators are working at the demanding boundary of video game design, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
