Teacher Killed and Two Dozen Pupils Seized in Armed Clash at Nigerian School
Gun-wielding individuals have taken the life of an instructor and abducted at least 25 students in an attack on a female high school in north-western Nigeria, authorities have confirmed.
The armed faction stormed the public educational institution for female students in Maga, Kebbi State at roughly 4 in the morning local time on Monday, officials stated.
The armed individuals "confronted officers on duty in a firefight" before scaling the perimeter fence and abducting the learners from their dormitory, authorities disclosed.
One member of staff was killed while trying to protect the students. Another staff member suffered bullet injuries and is now undergoing medical care.
Observers recounted a sizeable number of assailants, known locally as bandits, who arrived firing sporadically to create fear.
Community members disclosed to media that the attackers afterwards forced a number of girls into surrounding rural areas.
The police said they had deployed "extra specialized police forces, in coordination with armed forces and vigilante groups" to the area.
