Her Royal Highness's Traditional Yuletide Carol Concert Spotlights Unsung Heroes
Her Royal Highness has organised her customary festive musical service at the historic Abbey, with attendees featuring royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.
The 1,600 guests will enjoy a selection of festive songs, musical performances, and spoken word pieces from stars like award-winning actors.
Focusing on Compassion and Love
The focus of the service, held in the atmospheric historic church on the afternoon, is generosity and expressing affection towards one's neighbour.
In the audience are a couple named the Cordiners, whose child passed away from a brain tumour, and who founded an organisation, a support fund, to aid parents with a terminally ill child.
"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often discreetly and without words, and without any expectation or recognition, make an extraordinary difference to the lives of others," the Princess expressed in a note prior to the festive gathering.
A Steady Comeback
The princess has been making her own gradual return to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "discreet, frequently unseen labour of caregivers".
Performance and Potential
Those coming to the Abbey will enjoy performances from budding artists supported by the charitable trust Future Talent, co-founded by the Duchess of Kent to broaden opportunities for musical tuition.
Trumpeter Carys Wood, 18, who plays the trumpet and is from Pembrokeshire, has been supported by the trust, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "awesome" to be taking part in tonight's service.
"Music can be very expensive," Carys said. She is now enrolled at the renowned conservatoire, and added that "each individual ought to be given the possibility" to develop their musical skills.
A Sisterly Duo
Her younger sibling Eliza, aged 11, who is a euphonium player, will be present at the Abbey. "It's unbelievable that I get to perform here in front of so many important people," she said.
Among the guests will be individuals spanning multiple eras.
That will encompass young Saphia Turner, nine, winner of a prize for youthful altruism, who creates and sells art and completes fundraising tasks to collect donations for local food charities.
Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment
The Abbey has been festooned with specially made wreaths, with well-known chef Mary Berry and flower expert Simon Lycett contributing to their design.
Among the musical performers will be Katie Melua, the Abbey's own choir and a Cornish sea shanty group, the group Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "a dream come true."
The Together at Christmas carol concert will be broadcast on ITV1 on Christmas Eve.
